Starters=Volatility

Cliff Lee - Again, this is why you should never waste a high draft pick on any pitcher, except Johan Santana. They are too volatile. They have too man ups and downs when it comes to performance and injury risk. Lee was lit up for 4ERs over 5IPed. If you were an owner who drafted Lee high because of his great CY Young year of 2008, I feel sorry for you.

Roy Halladay - On a positive note, Halladay came back from a rough first outing to get a win against the Indians. Owners who have Halladay should not worry and expect him to be another Cy Young contender this year. With Wells, Rios, Snider, and Lind swinging the bats, you might see Roy with a few more wins. Very scary!!!

BJ Ryan - Sticking with the Jays, the bullpen more specifically the closers role needs to be looked at. Ryan was torched for 3ERs over 0.1IPed. If you are a BJ owner, make sure to back him up with Scott Downs.

Hank Blalock - Two years of injuries seems to have given Hank some time to get back to raking. If Hank stays healthy he could be a sleeper in Texas this year. This guy has posted some great fantasy numbers in the past and if he continues stay healthy and hits behind Hamilton owners could see a 25/90 year from this once upon time fantasy staple.

Rocco Baldelli - For AL-Only, this guy should be on your roster. Seems to be healthy and swinging the bat and connecting.

Pitchers

BJ Ryan of the Blue Jays was ejected from the game last night after arguing balls and strikes. Of course this isn't the big news. Ryan gave up an ER which gave the lead to the Mariners and resulted in a Jays loss. This is the 3rd loss for Ryan in the past 5 appearances. With Ryan looking very normal and hittable, look to Scott Downs for more save opportunities. With Ryan's surgery repaired arm there just might be some problems or complications which is hurting his delivery and location.

Shaun Marcum of the Jays is doing very well on the mound as of late. In his last 5 starts he has given up a total of 5ER's over a span of 28.1 innings. Incredible. Pick him up if he is available.

Tom Glavine of the Braves is the on DL for the second time this season and for the second time in his entire career. I think the days of Glavine and Smoltz is over. Forget Glavine and drop him.

Billy Wagner of the Mets blew his second consecutive save opportunity last night by giving up 2ER's. As long as there is no physical pain/injury this won't be a problem. Wagner with all his experience will get out of this rut.

JJ Putz of the Mariners left the game with a sore right elbow. This is bad news for Putz owners. If you have Putz, go out and grab Morrow and/or Rowland-Smith.

BJ Ryan

BJ Ryan of the Blue Jays seems to have hit a rough patch in his past 2 save chances. He has blown both saves and earned the loss while allowing 5ER's over 1.1 innings. For those who own Ryan make sure to grab Scottie Downs because he has been the 2nd closer in the Jays bullpen because the Jays were easing Ryan back into his duties after tommy john surgery.

With Ryan showing some holes in his game, the Jays are hoping this has nothing to do with injury but just some poor pitches and some timely hitting by their opponents.

Scotty Downs

Scotty Downs of the Blue Jays just recorded his 5th save of the season. With BJ Ryan coming back from Tommy John Surgery and not pitching on back to back nights, Downs has come out and pitched extremely well for the Jays. With 5 saves and an ERA of 2.60 he is the closer for the Jays when Ryan can't pitch. For owners who are seeking some help in the closer position, picking up Downs is a must. Expect Downs to grab 5-10 more saves this season while helping with the other pitching categories. With 18K's in 18.1 innings of work, he's a nice addition to your roster.

BJ Ryan

BJ Ryan of the Blue Jays is officially back from Tommy John Surgery and collected his first save of the season. Owners of Ryan should take some caution with this and maintain Accardo as a back-up just in case something happens with Ryan. Also, since the Blue Jays want to take care of Ryan's arm you will find the Jays holding Ryan back from back-to-back days of pitching. Ryan is coming back early from surgery and you never know how this will pan out in the future especially since he has an erratic pitching style that puts more than usual amount of pressure on the arm.

Owning both Accardo and Ryan should be a good hedge.

Accardo

Jeremy Accardo of the Blue Jays converted his second save of the season against the Red Sox. Owners should have Accardo on their team since BJ Ryan is on the DL.
