Armando Galarraga

Armando Galarraga of the Tigers, who is filling in for Bonderman, earned his 5th win of the season by defeating the Indians with 5.2IP, 4H's, 2ER's, 2BB's, and 4K's. Since Bonderman is likely out for the season, Galarraga will be tossing more innings in the upcoming future.

Owners, this is a good pick-up to add to your pitching staff as a 4th-5th starter. If he does poorly drop him but for now you should ride his fine pitching.

2008 stats - 58.1IP, 24ER's, 26BB's, 39K's, and a 3.70ERA.

Out for The Season

Jake Westbrook of the Indians will have surgery on his right elbow which will cause him to miss the rest of the season. For fantasy owners, this isn't a big blow but it does hurt since he was your 3rd starter in most fantasy lineups. For AL-only owners, this is a big blow because of the scarcity of quality players in this kind of format. Obviously, he should be dropped.

Jeremy Bonderman of the Tigers will most likely miss the rest of the season due to a medical procedure to due with a blood clot. Bonderman went under the knife after the removal of the blood clot and into an angioplasty. There is no time schedule for his return and owners should just drop him from your lineups unless you have a DL spot. Keep him in the DL spot until more news surfaces or if someone else on your team, knock on wood, gets injured.

Jeff Larish

Jeff Larish of the Tigers was called up from AAA and will see action at 1B. His ability to go deep is a great asset in fantasy leagues and for AL-only owners this is a great chance for you to grab a player who is going to play everyday. In 53 games, he has a .277AVG, 16HR's, and 43RBI's.

If you are in need of some power, go out and grab him.

D-Train

The D-Train is back in the majors and threw 1 inning during a relief appearance for the Tigers. As mentioned previously, he will be working from the bullpen to work out some kinks in his pitching. So far it doesn't look good. In this 1 inning of work he allowed a run on 1 hit and 2 walks. This is not a good sign, the 2 walks, because his control is what was getting him into trouble prior to his stint on the DL.

Owners, don't bother with Willis yet. He doesn't offer too much value at the moment.

Willis and Galarraga

Dontrelle Willis of the Tigers will return from the DL and move into the bullpen to get his control back in order before heading to the starting rotation. Armando Galarraga will continue in his role as a starter.

This isn't huge news since Willis shouldn't be found on any rosters but with Galarraga holding his own on the mound this season (3-1, 35.1IP, 14BB, 24K, and 3.06ERA) he's worth a spot on rosters.

Shef

Gary Sheffield of the Tigers may file some retirement papers due to his surgically repaired shoulders. Sheffield is still complaining of pain his shoulders and can't even cross arms without feeling some pain. So far, doctors have found no structural damage but after a few cortisone shots Sheffield and owners are hoping he can come back and provide his typical numbers.

Last year, Sheffield started out slowly but returned to normal form and helped many owners to a fantasy championship. This year is different, with another year of health problems Sheffield may find himself retiring sooner rather than later.

Owners...you should take this step by step. I know his trade value is low but if you can unload him in a package deal or if you want to keep him, either is fine. Coming into the season, you should have realized that he was a high risk high reward type of guy.

CC Sabathia

Ouch, another terrible outing by Indians ace pitcher C.C. Sabathia. The start to this season is nothing owners ever expected in their craziest of dreams. This time around, the heavy bats of the Tigers gave Sabathia another 9 ER's.

Owners shouldn't outright panic but should be worried. This is a contract year for Sabathia and we all know contract years can lead to major swings in stats, look at Adrian Beltre of 2004 and Andruw Jones of 2007. Just hope Sabathia turns things around and becomes a 2004 Beltre because if he continues and struggles like Jones in 2007, owners will have wasted a high draft pick.

My advice is to wait him out. Bench him for his next start and watch what's happening from the sideline. He throws a gem, throw him back into your lineup for his next start. If he throws batting practice and allows another 9ER's, worry about it then. But on the bright side, his velocity is there but he just can't find his location. Just hope injuries aren't causing this terrible start.

Dontrelle Willis

Dontrelle Willis of the Tigers was placed on the 15Day-DL with a hyperextended knee. Willis has always been a workhorse by pitching 197+ innings in the past 4 years but since his amazing 2005 season where he went 22-10 he's hasn't come close to repeating.

In mixed leagues he isn't worth keeping on your roster unless you have a DL spot open or if you have a HUGE bench. The 2005 season gave him name value but overall he hurts fantasy teams more than he helps. Since he is on the DL you won't get full value for him so get what you can. The only upside is he's on the Tigers and the lineup they have should score plenty of runs so he might be on the right end of wins but seems to always give you a high ERA. Also, his K rate has declined since his 2005 season.
