ERA, AVG, WHIP

The 2008 fantasy baseball season is now into its third month. This is the time to really make sure you are going to be able to compete for a fantasy championship come September. The categories that you should really be worried about are the ones which calculate averages. For example WHIP, ERA, and AVG. It is simple mathematics when it comes to this categories because of the fact after pitching 1000 innings it is very hard for you to move your ERA in you favour unless you put together a few great starts. But if you pay attention to your categories now it won't be as hard to improve your stats.

If you are in need of help in the above stats make sure to do it immediately because if you leave them to solve themselves you find yourself looking up in the standings come Aug/Sept.

Improving the ERA/WHIP is very easy at this stage in time. Go to your FA list and see if there are some middle relievers out there that have low ERA/WHIP, trust me there are tons of guys out there that can help you.

Search for these guys Casilia, Johnson, Byrdak, Beilmel, and Buchholz. The have all pitched a minimum of 19 innings and all have an ERA lower than 1.56 and have a WHIP lower than 1.50.

Instead of throwing starters out there, unless they are your aces, go out and grab these relievers to lower your ERA/WHIP and maybe even grab a few vulture wins while they are at it. Keep these guys in for a week or two and see where you are with your ERA and WHIP.

The more attention you pay to your categories now the more likely you'll be holding a championship banner in the air. Okay, most leagues don't have banners but you get bragging rights!
